– Our History –
Ōtāhuhu has deep roots, originally established as a military settlement in the 1860s. Its location between ports, rail, and key roads made it an ideal hub for trade and industry. The name “Ōtāhuhu” comes from the Māori-language name for the local volcanic cone Ōtāhuhu / Mount Richmond, meaning “the place of Tāhuhu” — an important ancestral figure of Ngāi Tāhuhu.
Become a Member?
Business and property owners in the Ōtāhuhu area are eligible to become OBA members. Membership provides valuable support, visibility, and a voice in the future of our town centre.
